The U.S. Congress can protect and save your Internet. Do not let the FCC eliminate Net Neutrality on Thursday December 14th. It is very important to understand what Net Neutrality is and to take action by calling Congress. (TIME SENSITIVE URGENT)
Millions of aging Americans use the internet daily. It has opened doors that never existed that have increased the quality of our lives. This is an open internet free from the lobby dollars of giant corporations that at present do not prevent you from accessing the content you want to find and see. This is Net Neutrality. That will be ending this week unless each of us speaks up immediately. Only you and your friends can Save the Internet.
First it is important to know that “Net Neutrality” is legislation that makes access to the internet equal for all. It is about freedom of information, freedom of speech, freedom of enterprise, and freedom to choose what products and services to use. Save the internet.
These 10 companies want to decide what you see and what websites you have access to. Last year each has spent money to end your access to a neutral internet. First, AT&T spent $16.3 million. Comcast (the largest cable provider in America and owner of NBC Universal) spent $14.3 million. Verizon* spent $10 million, and T-Mobile spent $8 million. All of these companies AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, the NCTA ($13.4 million in lobbying in 2016) spent over half a billion dollars to destroy net neutrality.
“Net Neutrality” exists to protect the internet so that your internet service provider cannot legally “give preferred treatment to services that they directly profit from and block those services that they don’t, all the while charging internet companies like Netflix additional fees for speedier access to consumers.”
Without the existing Net Neutrality protections consumers may not be able to access Netflix on their “basic” internet plan at full speed, but they can access Hulu. Why? Because Hulu is owned by a corporation of Comcast, 21st Century Fox, Disney (which could soon own parts of Fox) and Time Warner. Charter, owners of Time Warner, also own the internet service providers Cox, Spectrum, CenturyLink, Road Runner and Frontier Communications. AT&T owns DirectTV, and wants to buy Time Warner.
Obviously the part of Net Neutrality explained so far is about money. Whose money? Yours because it is each and every one of us that will be paying more.
Everyone of us know about the censorship imposed by oppressive governments. “When a country lacks an open internet, the government (and companies friendly with said government) are able to do anything from simply blocking or banning apps entirely (EG: Facebook, Twitter, Skype, WhatsApp for censorship or economic reasons) to more aggressive moves such as Egypt’s effective shutdown of their internet service providers.” (David GorodyanskyTechCrunch)
We as Americans think that can’t happen here. But the truth is that despite our freedom of speech, we have very powerful corporations with lobbyists using corporate dollars to push the corporations wants and needs over our interests. Save your internet.
The current protections provided by “NET NEUTRALITY” are every American’s civic right. They protect equal and fair access to all that is on the internet. Taking away a civic right is like saying you are denied access to an education, or to vote. These are civic rights.
Today many people use the internet to help themselves improve their quality of life. Some of them may be living with cancer and the information found on the internet helps them to live better than having their quality of life destroyed by expensive chemotherapy that manages to first take all their money before they die. This helpful information will likely be blocked or buried by the billion dollar big pharma industry that doesn’t want you to know about alternatives that may be decreasing there profit margins despite the fact that it could help you. How fast do you think big pharma will react to hide patient reports of problems that they are experiencing. THIS IS YOUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH at stake.
Net Neutrality gives each and every American a voice. Protect your civic right that Net Neutrality gives each of us. Protect your freedoms. Protect what is America. Net Neutrality levels the playing field. We currently read actual product reviews that a big company cannot remove with their dollars. Save your internet and tell Congress to protect Net Neutrality and an open internet.
